Bird by Bird

I have the most beautiful coach that I see on a regular basis. She helps to keep me on the straight and narrow and I call and book in a session when I feel the need. Last week I felt the need. I’ve been feeling quite overwhelmed of late, with what life continues to present me with so off I went. Halfway through the session, she said to me, Cate, just take it bird by bird.

Let me explain!

She went on to share with me where she had come across this phrase, and how she has used it many times for herself, her clients, her family and her friends.

Many years ago, Anne Lamott’s* little brother had been given three months to complete a school project on birds. The night before his assignment was due, he hadn’t put anything together. Close to tears and feeling overcome with the daunting task ahead, his dad put his arms around the boys’ shoulder and said bird by bird buddy. Just take it, bird by bird.

I love a good story! And when stories are shared, they can be a source of support and comfort for improving our own lives.

Bird by bird, is going to become my new mantra when I feel like I have too much to do with so little time to do it. Just one step at a time, completing one task, before moving onto the next. Shifting my perspective, it all becomes very doable.

Now I am passing this story on to you, so that you may share it with your loved ones.

Next time you are short on time, have a long list of 'to do' items, are tired and have no idea where to begin, remember.....just take it, bird by bird.

Much love and blessings,

Cate xxx
